Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Shinica Thomas hosted the 2023 State of the County Address on Monday, Nov. 13. The event was held at the PNC Arena to update the community on Wake's work and celebrate a year of successes with partners. The theme of the State of the County Address was “Better Together.”

“I think it’s just how helpful it can be. I think we have narrow artificial intelligence now that we don’t even think about like our Alexa and our Siri at home that help us navigate day-to-day work,” said Shinica Thomas.

It took 16 years for the mobile phone to reach 100 million users, seven years for the internet and just two months for Artificial Intelligence-powered ChatGPT. The startling speed of adoption for language/chatbot tools has government leaders mobilizing to more closely explore the possibilities and risks of AI.

The Raleigh-based system’s plan is to build two facilities in Garner at a campus near White Oak Road and Timber Drive East, an area that has seen explosive growth in the past few years.
